The head of presidential special projects and creative economy Dennis Itumbi, has hit back at Citizen TV for peddling fake news and misinformation over the governments Nairobi Empowerment Program.
Through a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Itumbi accused Citizen TV of being used as a platform for “fake news and misinformation,” clarifying that no items were issued to individuals.
There was a public uproar after a section of attendees of the empowerment program claimed that they had not been handed the goods to take home.
He explained that the program targeted 1,150 groups, each made up of 10 members, and that only group chairpersons were authorised to collect items on behalf of their teams.
“Kindly avoid being used as a platform for fake news & misinformation. no items were issued to individuals. The empowerment targeted 1,150 groups, each consisting of 10 people,” read the statement.
He further announced that a second phase of the Nairobi Empowerment Program, dubbed “Season Two,” will follow.
Itumbi dismissed reports suggesting irregularities in the distribution of empowerment items under the Nairobi Empowerment Program.
“It was the official process. Even lying, to paraphrase President Kibaki, requires some design,” he wrote.
