Oasis Specialist Hospital in Kisii town, has launched a mental and rehabilitation centre to address mental health. The centres’ objective is to end the stigma associated with mental health and initiate a comprehensive integrated rehabilitation leading to full recovery.
According to a Psychologist, Harriet Wamboi, there is no state of good health without mental illness, hence the need to treat it as any disease that requires medical attention.
Wamboi added that a recent research study has described mental illness as a crisis globally, affecting 15% of its population.
Statistics from the Oasis hospital show 24 in-patients were admitted with mental problems, 300 patients were attended to by a psychiatrist, while 50 were referred to a psychologist.
