Registrar of Political Parties

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has announced the appointment of Ms. Sophia Sitati as the Acting Registrar, effective July 14, 2025.

Ms. Sitati, a seasoned legal practitioner, has been seconded from the Office of the Attorney General under the State Department for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, where she served as Chief State Counsel.

She replaces Ms. Ann Nderitu, CBS, who has been appointed as a Commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

During a handover briefing held on July 15 at the ORPP headquarters, Ms. Sitati was formally introduced to members of the management and staff by the outgoing Registrar.

"The ORPP is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sophia Sitati as the Acting Registrar of Political Parties effective the 14th of July, 2025. Ms. Sitati has been seconded from the Office of the Attorney General, State Department for Justice & Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, where she served as Chief State Counsel," read a statement from the ORPP.

Ms. Nderitu leaves the office after a seven-year tenure marked by significant institutional reforms. She is credited with laying the foundation for ORPP’s growth through initiatives including human capital development, legal and ICT reforms, stakeholder engagement, and support for political party capacity-building—particularly among special interest groups. Her leadership positioned ORPP as a regional benchmark in the promotion of democratic governance.

The ORPP expressed confidence in Ms. Sitati’s ability to continue advancing its mandate and building on the progress made since the institution’s establishment in 2008.
