A vehicle belonging to the Nairobi County Government was set on fire by hawkers on Tom Mboya Street near Afya Centre, following an altercation between county officials and city hawkers.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when county officials attempted to confront hawkers operating along the streets of Tom Mboya near afya Centre .
During the operation, they reportedly tried to arrest a woman selling mangoes, prompting her to raise an alarm. In response, fellow hawkers and members of the public became agitated and retaliated by setting the county government vehicle ablaze.
Amid the chaos, demonstrators were heard chanting slogans such as “Sakaja must go,” expressing their frustration with the county administration.
The protesters called on the Nairobi County Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with hawkers and work toward harmonizing working conditions in the city to prevent similar incidents in the future.
