Marine engineering students from Pioneer International University gained hands-on exposure during an educational visit to the Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe, as part of their Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW) course.
The visit aimed to bridge academic learning with real-world marine operations, offering students practical insights into ship functions, deck procedures, and damage control core competencies for aspiring marine engineers.
At the Kenya Naval Training College, the students engaged with the Full Mission Bridge Simulator and Damage Control Unit, gaining a deeper understanding of the technical demands of maritime security training.
The group also toured Kenya Navy Ship Jasiri, where they were briefed on its role in defending Kenya’s maritime territory, and visited Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) to learn about ship maintenance and repair operations.
The experience underscored the critical link between academic training and field expertise, preparing students to contribute to Kenya’s growing maritime sector.
