Silence from Elected Leaders is Sabotaging President Ruto’s Agenda

In the current political landscape, one striking observation is the silence of elected leaders from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Amani National Congress (ANC), and FORD-Kenya (FORK K) within the Kenya Kwanza (KK) coalition.

Despite being part of the ruling alliance, these MPs, MCAs, Senators, Women Reps, and Governors have failed to rally behind President William Ruto in a meaningful way, especially during moments of political pressure and public attacks. Their silence is not only surprising but deeply concerning.

When the contentious Finance Bill was under heavy criticism, it was expected that leaders from the ruling coalition would rise to the occasion and counter the misinformation, propaganda, and fear-mongering that was being spread across the country.

Instead, they remained quiet, allowing the narrative to spiral out of control and culminate in protests, looting, and loss of life.

Their failure to defend the government’s agenda at such a critical moment raises questions about their commitment to the President’s vision.

Another glaring example of this silence was during the fabricated claims that the government had sold airport land. Once again, none of the elected leaders from the KK coalition came forward to dispel these falsehoods.

The absence of a unified response to these baseless accusations only fueled public distrust and allowed the opposition’s narrative to gain traction.

Leaders, especially those with access to political platforms, have a responsibility to clarify such issues and protect the integrity of the government they serve.

Why, then, are they failing to use their platforms to support the President?

Elected leaders owe their positions to the very political structure that placed them in power. Therefore, it is not just their duty but their obligation to defend the President and his government from unwarranted attacks.

The silence from these leaders signals a lack of solidarity, and worse, it sends the wrong message to the public—that perhaps even those within the government are not aligned with the President’s agenda.

Some might argue that the next election is still years away, and as such, these leaders have no immediate incentive to speak out. However, this short-term thinking is not only damaging but dangerous.

Political momentum is built gradually, and by failing to stand by the President now, they are not only undermining his leadership but also jeopardizing the long-term success of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

It is time for these leaders to step up.

They must actively defend the President’s policies and initiatives, whether on public platforms, in the media, or at the grassroots level.

President Ruto has laid out an ambitious plan for Kenya’s economic recovery and development, but without the vocal and visible support of his coalition, his efforts risk being drowned out by the opposition’s noise.

In conclusion, silence is not an option for those elected to serve under the Kenya Kwanza banner. Political leadership requires courage, not only to promote one’s agenda but also to defend it from detractors.

It is high time that UDA, ANC, and FORK K leaders wake up and rally behind the President. Their failure to do so will only embolden the opposition and slow down the government’s efforts to deliver for the people of Kenya.
