Pastor Ng’ang’a has sparked outrage by telling his congregation, “Mtoe sadaka, kama hamtaki kutoa mtoke hapa hamjalipa nyumba hii… Mtakuwa mkilipa na masaa.” Loosely translated, he demanded offerings from church members, comparing the church to public transport where people pay for the service and space they use.
The statement ignited strong reactions. Critics accused him of commercializing religion and pressuring believers to give money under duress. Others defended him, saying churches need financial support, and Ng’ang’a was just being brutally honest about it.
Ng’ang’a is no stranger to controversy. His sermons often feature confrontational moments where he scolds or embarrasses members publicly. Yet, his church remains full, and his influence is undeniable.
From a Christian standpoint, giving is encouraged as a voluntary act of faith. Many believe offerings should come from the heart, not from fear or pressure. Still, Ng’ang’a argues that running a ministry requires resources—and faithful members should contribute.
