The now profit-making national carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ), will on July 2, 2025, launch direct flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi to Gatwick Airport in London.

This is a second route to the United Kingdom that will complement the JKIA- Heathrow Airport in London way.

Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka said flights from Nairobi to Gatwick Airport will operate three times per week; Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The new route will give Kenya Airways customers an option to go to the United Kingdom, either through Heathrow Airport or Gatwick Airport.

The expansion comes as the national carrier recorded its highest-ever profit after tax of KSh 5.4 billion in 11 years for the financial year ending December 31, 2024.

This was a turnaround from the KSh 22.7 billion loss recorded in 2023.

The airline’s total income grew to KSh 188.5 billion, a 5.6% increase from the KSh 178.5 billion reported in 2023.
