Detectives have thwarted a planned robbery targeting a senior military officer in Kitengela, arresting six suspects in a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

The gang, believed to be a criminal syndicate involving serving Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and civilian accomplices, had been under surveillance after authorities received credible information about an impending attack.

On the day of the planned robbery, the suspects arrived in two vehicles, a Toyota Harrier and a Toyota Ractis, with one positioned as a getaway car. A female suspect approached the targeted residence pretending to seek access, unaware detectives had already secured the area. Officers swiftly moved in, arresting her and intercepting the vehicles, leading to the capture of all six suspects.

Those arrested include Charles Kiio Matata, a KDF sergeant based at Kahawa Garrison, David Ng’aa Mwangangi, a civilian mechanic linked to Kahawa Barracks, and Samuel Agango Odoyo, a KDF officer currently on interdiction, alongside three other civilian suspects. A search at the scene recovered military uniforms, boots, and tools such as a crowbar, hammer, knife, and pliers, believed to have been intended for the robbery. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network and any links to other crimes.
