26 Illegal Firearms Recovered During Katilu Operation in Turkana

Over 26 firearms have been recovered by the National Police Service as part of an operation conducted in Katilu, Turkana County.

As stated by the police, the weapons were handed over voluntarily as part of ongoing disarmament operation in the area.

Some of the arms recovered included 21 AK-47 rifles, two M16 rifles, two MK4 arms, and one G3 rifle.

The exercise comes amid efforts by security forces in improving security situation in the region that has suffered years of conflict.

As explained by the police, apart from using force, the operation involves collaboration with the locals who seem to be cooperating fully with the process.

“The National Police Service continues to disarm the population as part of measures aimed at restoring law and order,” the statement read.

As noted by the police, the progress recorded in the operation indicates that the disarmament program is bearing fruits following cooperation with security officers.

It was further clarified that similar measures would be continued in the coming days to maintain lawlessness in the region.
