The Commandant of the National Criminal Investigation Academy (NCIA), Mr. Sospeter Munyi, has called on officers to step up vigilance against drug and human trafficking, particularly at borders and transit points.

Speaking on behalf of the Director of Criminal Investigations during the closing of a five-day workshop on new psychoactive substances, Mr. Munyi emphasized the need for law enforcement to adapt to evolving threats and uphold international obligations under the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime.

“The fight against drugs is one of the most pressing challenges facing law enforcement today,” he said, urging officers to apply their training to disrupt criminal networks and protect vulnerable populations.

Mr. Munyi also thanked the Government of Italy and the European Union for supporting the workshop through the EU-ACT 2 Program. The event brought together top security officials, including the Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit, Mr. Samuel Laboso, and Italian Ambassador Dr. Roberto Natali.
