A visit to see her boyfriend in police custody ended with a 26-year-old woman being arrested after officers found bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread.
Bernice Achieng had gone to Buruburu Police Station to visit her boyfriend, who was being held at the station.
She also carried a loaf of bread which she asked officers to give to him.
However, officers at the report office became suspicious after noticing that the package had already been opened.
They searched the loaf and found five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden inside it.
The officers then searched Achieng further and found another seven rolls of bhang in the pocket of her jacket.
A total of 12 rolls of bhang were recovered.
Achieng was arrested and remained in police custody as officers secured the exhibits. She is expected to be taken to court.
Suspect Arrested After Motorcycle Chase in Thika
Another case of drug dealing was uncovered when police in Thika apprehended a drug peddler following a chase by motorcycle that resulted in a crash.
The peddler, named as John Mwangi, alias “Bombay”, was said to have been in company of a woman when they met a roadblock by the police in Kairi, Thika West.
The peddler tried to escape upon sighting the police and fled away on his motorcycle.
They ended up crashing the motorcycle near Ree Supermarket after the rider lost control following a collision with a speed bump.
The woman managed to escape among the crowd and was yet to be arrested.
The rider, Mwangi, was arrested in the process.
The police conducted a search of the motorcycle and found 300 pieces of bhang as well as an additional 3 kilograms of the substance wrapped in yellow polythene and attached to the motorcycle seat.
The peddler, Mwangi, was taken to Kimuchu Police Station for further investigation.
