President William Ruto’s government’s decision to privatise four public sugar factories has been given the green light by the High Court in Nairobi.
This is after Justice Chacha Mwita dismissed a petition filed by Martin Nyongesa Baraza challenging the privatisation decision, citing a lack of public participation.
While dismissing the petition, Mwita said there was enough public participation in the decision-making process to lease the four factories to private companies.
The four include Nzoia Sugar Company Limited, Chemelil Sugar Company Limited, Muhoroni Sugar Company Limited and South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited.
President Ruto said the privatisation of the aforementioned companies will improve efficiency, reduce debts, and revitalise the struggling sugar sector.
