In a recent cabinet reshuffle, President William Ruto appointed William Kabogo as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, a decision hailed as both strategic and transformative.

Kabogo, the former Governor of Kiambu County, brings a wealth of experience in promoting digital innovation and economic growth.

Proven Track Record in Digital Advancement

Kabogo’s tenure as Kiambu Governor was marked by significant strides in technology-driven initiatives.

His administration introduced the Kiambu Digital Platform, which digitized county services, facilitated cashless payments, and boosted revenue collection.

He also partnered with Liquid Telecom to launch free Wi-Fi in key urban areas such as Thika, Limuru, and Ruiru, enhancing digital literacy and supporting local businesses.

Additionally, Kabogo spearheaded the establishment of ICT centers to promote financial inclusion and facilitated the expansion of high-speed internet through the National Optic Fibre Backbone Project (NOFBI II), ensuring greater access to online services in Kiambu.

Commitment to Digital Economy Growth

Kabogo expressed his gratitude for the appointment, pledging to advance the government’s digital agenda.

“I am honored by this opportunity to serve. I will work tirelessly to foster innovation, inclusivity, and growth in the digital economy while enhancing communication systems across the country,” he said.

Strategic Reshuffle to Deliver BETA

Kabogo’s appointment is part of President Ruto’s broader reshuffle aimed at optimizing service delivery and advancing the administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

His experience in bridging the digital divide and promoting economic growth aligns with the ministry’s goals of leveraging technology for national development.

This new role positions Kabogo as a key player in driving Kenya’s digital transformation and economic innovation.
