UDA Tightens Grip in Baringo as MP Engages Top Leadership

Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren has stepped up his engagement with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership, holding talks with Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan in Nairobi in what signals early political positioning ahead of 2027.

The meeting at Hustler Plaza brought together Kamuren and party officials to discuss strengthening UDA’s presence in Baringo South and the wider Rift Valley, a region that remains central to the party’s political strategy.

While officially framed as a courtesy call, the engagement carried broader political undertones, with Kamuren delivering a message from the Endorois Council of Elders and revisiting long-standing issues around land rights and marginalisation.

Kamuren’s visit comes as UDA moves to consolidate its base in the Rift Valley amid shifting political alliances and rising competition in the region.

Baringo has increasingly become politically sensitive, with local leaders balancing development demands, community interests and emerging national alignments.

By engaging directly with the party’s top leadership, Kamuren is seen as positioning himself within UDA’s inner political structure as the party begins laying groundwork for the next election cycle.

At the centre of the discussions were the concerns of the Endorois community, particularly the long-standing push for land restitution following the landmark 2010 African Commission ruling that recognised their rights over ancestral land around Lake Bogoria.

Kamuren, whose constituency hosts part of the affected community, has been under pressure to translate that legal victory into practical gains on the ground.

Hassan Omar, who has previously championed minority rights and was recognised as an elder by the Endorois, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting marginalised communities.

Political analysts say such engagements are part of a broader effort by UDA to reinforce loyalty among sitting MPs while aligning local leaders with the party’s national agenda.

For Kamuren, the meeting serves both as a reaffirmation of his place within the ruling party and a strategic move to secure backing as political realignments begin to take shape.

With grassroots politics already gaining momentum, Baringo South is emerging as one of the constituencies to watch as UDA works to maintain its influence in its traditional strongholds.
