Teen sensation Zayyan Virani will carry Kenya’s hopes into the quarter-finals of the singles competition as the J30 Nairobi ITF East Africa Junior Circuit gathers pace at the Nairobi Club on Friday.
The 16-year-old Kenyan, seeded second, confirmed his credentials by topping Group B with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win over Great Britain’s Boyan Ilchev to book his place in the last eight.
Based in Spain, Virani employed a simple but effective game plan, soaking up pressure and ruthlessly capitalising on his opponent’s errors.
His composed and disciplined display reinforced his status as one of the region’s most promising junior players.
The milestone carries added weight for Virani, who is the only Kenyan—boy or girl—to advance to the quarter-final stage of the weeklong junior Grade tournament.
Playing on home soil, he welcomed the achievement but remains firmly focused on the bigger picture.
While reaching the last eight is significant, Virani is determined to push deeper into the tournament, amass crucial ranking points and mount a serious challenge for the title.
