Some boda boda riders in South B, Nairobi County, are urging security personnel to step up operations against criminal gangs that, according to them, have been targeting and stealing their motorcycles, thus threatening their livelihoods.

The riders changed their weapon after getting a stolen motorcycle in Mukuru kwa Reuben, a move that, according to them, shows the worsening crime rate in the area.

Over the last year, some ten or more motorcycles have been stolen, according to the riders, leaving many operators without a source of income.

Meanwhile, the riders said that the motorcycle theft situation has become so rusty that thieves’ gangs have developed to stand, in among the estates, attacking anyone they come across, and eventually, using the stolen bikes for criminal activities or selling them in parts.

Therefore, the riders have appealed to the police and other security agencies to organize a continuous anti, robbery campaign in order to break the networks that are behind this crime.

In addition, the dancers asked for increased collaboration between boda boda associations, local administrators and security officers in order to improve surveillance and information sharing.

They strongly believed that rapid intervention would not only bring back the security but also the safety of their main source of income.

Boda boda conveyance is still one of the major employment sources among young people in Nairobi, hence the riders worries are justifiable and should be taken seriously by all the relevant authorities and stakeholders
