Security officers in Samburu County yesterday foiled an attempted livestock theft after responding swiftly to a distress call from Marti Location. A herdsman had reported that unknown raiders had ambushed him while he was grazing his goats along the Marti–Sulubei Road and driven the animals away.

Officers from the National Police Service, working closely with National Police Reservists, immediately launched a pursuit, tracking the suspects across the rugged terrain. The chase turned intense when the security team confronted the armed raiders, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.

Overwhelmed by the coordinated response, the suspects fled into nearby bushes towards the Loibasat area, abandoning the stolen livestock. All 50 goats were recovered and later returned to their owner in the presence of the area Assistant Chief.

Authorities say the operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb banditry and livestock theft in the region, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting communities and safeguarding property.
