President William Ruto has launched a fierce attack on opposition leaders while addressing the ongoing leadership wrangles at The Nairobi Hospital, dismissing claims of a state takeover and vowing decisive action against alleged fraudsters.

Speaking in Mount Elgon, Bungoma County, the President said he was forced to intervene after senior doctors and professionals from the hospital allegedly raised alarm over a planned scheme by “conmen and charlatans” to take control of the institution.

“As the patron of Nairobi Hospital, senior doctors approached me to save the hospital from fraudsters who wanted to expropriate it,” Ruto said, insisting that the facility must be protected from individuals seeking to exploit it.

The Head of State described Nairobi Hospital as a premier medical institution not just in Kenya but in the region, warning that his administration would not allow it to be “taken hostage” by cartels or corrupt networks.

Ruto revealed that he has already issued firm instructions for those linked to fraudulent activities within the hospital’s management to be removed, investigated and prosecuted.

“I have directed that all those involved be taken to court and charged,” he said, signaling a looming legal crackdown as authorities tighten investigations into the saga.

At the same time, the President sharply criticised the opposition over claims that the government was attempting to interfere with the hospital’s governance, terming the accusations baseless.

“I want to tell the brainless opposition to find something else to do… they are just scavengers scavenging on any headline,” Ruto said in remarks that have since stirred political reactions.

The Nairobi Hospital dispute has in recent days drawn national attention, with arrests and court cases involving senior officials linked to alleged financial and governance irregularities within the institution.

Ruto maintained that the government’s interest is solely to safeguard the hospital’s integrity and ensure it continues serving Kenyans, warning that no effort will be spared in restoring order.

The latest remarks add to rising political tensions between the government and opposition, as the Nairobi Hospital saga evolves into a high-stakes battle involving governance, healthcare and political accountability.
