The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast a gradual reduction in rainfall across many parts of the country this week, even as some regions remain at risk of isolated heavy downpours.

In its weather outlook for March 10–16, 2026, the department said rainfall is expected to reduce in both intensity and coverage. However, occasional showers are still likely to occur in several areas, particularly in the southern parts of the country.

The forecast comes just days after heavy rains triggered severe flooding in Nairobi, leaving several people dead, displacing residents and disrupting transport and essential services across the capital.

According to the meteorological department, isolated heavy rainfall may still occur in parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands including Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, and the South Coast.

Authorities have warned that such isolated storms could still trigger localised flooding, especially in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage systems.

The recent floods in Nairobi affected several neighbourhoods, including Mukuru, Kibra, Mathare and parts of Embakasi, after rivers burst their banks following intense overnight rainfall.

Major roads, including sections of Thika Superhighway and Mombasa Road, were also affected as water levels rose in different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the weather department has also issued a temperature outlook for the week.

Daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected in several regions, particularly along the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern Kenya, and parts of North-western Kenya.

At the same time, cooler conditions are expected in highland areas. Night-time temperatures below 10°C are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro.

The meteorological department has urged the public to stay informed through its official communication channels as weather conditions continue to evolve across the country.
