The youth in the Ukambani region have been urged to avoid leaders who do not have a clear development agenda and are only interested in using young people for their political gains.
President William Ruto made this call on Thursday when he was handing over business start, up capital under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement Fund to Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties. The function was held in Machakos County and the youth beneficiaries from the three counties were present.
About 5, 912 youth used the first instalment of the fund which is meant to support youth, led enterprises and increase economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
The President of the Republic of Kenya (Head of State) called upon the recipients of the fund to collaborate with leaders who not only see the potential of young people beyond politics but are also willing to provide sustainable development opportunities.
The youth should be wary of those who do not have the guts to do the right and focus only on their benefits or political greed. Such leaders, most of the time, make use of the youth and exploit them for their selfish political ends and thus, they are not in the right position to carry on with the efforts to improve the livelihoods of the youth.
Other leaders present at the function, echoed the sentiments of the President and urged the youth to pay no heed to the critics and naysayers who question the fund and its impact on the youth.
