President William Ruto has urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to lend their support to the National Infrastructure Fund proposal. He described the fund as an essential tool that could be used to mobilize sustainable financing for Kenya’s groundbreaking projects.
The Head of State, speaking on Thursday at the annual County Assemblies Forum held at KICC, Nairobi, said the infrastructure kitty would raise funds necessary for key development projects across the country.
President Ruto appealed to MCAs to be at the forefront of his administration’s broader development agenda. He said their role was crucial in the attainment of quality and affordable healthcare for all citizens. The President invited them to lead in getting residents enrolled into the Social Health Authority, thus backing the government’s focus on universal health coverage.
Furthermore, the President welcome the reforms that were targeting county leadership such as the reclassification of MCAs job groups as per the Salaries and Remuneration Commission recommendation. He also supported the proposed Ward Development Fund and the County Assemblies Pension Scheme which is currently in parliament for approval.
In the morning, at State House Nairobi, President Ruto approved the Births and Registration (Amendment) Bill (2024) and the Pyrethrum Repeal Bill (2024). and the Social Work Professionals Bill (2023) which through legislative vehicles is the government agenda lending the Parliamentary progress of the Social Work Professionals Bill.
The County Assemblies Forum is an annual meeting of Members of County Assembly held at KICC. During this forum, MCAs from all over the country discuss governance and developmental issues. It has become a platform through which the two levels of government collaborate.
