The National Police Service has trained 29 officers from Kisii and Migori counties on the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes involving M-KOPA.
The two-day sensitisation programme brought together Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) and Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officers (SCCIOs) as police seek to strengthen cooperation with the company.
The programme was conducted by the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA), with the Kisii session held on October 6 and the Migori session on October 7.
Police said the training focused on improving how officers handle cases involving M-KOPA’s operations and assets.
The officers were taken through crime prevention and detection strategies, investigation of M-KOPA-related cases, timely information sharing and preservation of evidence.
They were also urged to identify and deploy appropriately skilled investigators to handle cases involving the company.
A total of 21 OCSs and eight SCCIOs from the two counties attended the sessions.
In Kisii, the programme was presided over by Kisii County Criminal Investigations Officer David Sichangi and Kisii Central Sub-County Police Commander Musa Imamo.
In Migori, it was presided over by Migori County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga.
M-KOPA was represented by its Global Head of Forensics and Operations, Edgar Samba.
The National Police Service said the programme is part of the NCIA’s mandate to strengthen investigative capacity and work with private-sector partners to address emerging security challenges.
The training comes as police seek to improve collaboration with private companies in sharing information and preserving evidence needed to investigate criminal cases.
The NPS said the initiative will help officers respond more effectively to cases involving M-KOPA and strengthen crime prevention efforts in the two counties.
