Police Probe Suspected Suicide of UoN Medical Student

A tragic incident has unfolded at the University of Nairobi, where a 29-year-old fifth-year medical student, Collins Kiprop Kosgei, was found dead in what police suspect to be a suicide.

The discovery was made on the evening of Monday, September 2, when Kosgei’s lifeless body was found in the main hall residence.

Authorities reported that his head was covered with a nylon bag.

Inside the nylon bag, a small gas cylinder was found, secured around his neck with a shoelace. Kosgei was reportedly alone at the time of the incident.

His colleagues, upon discovering the body, immediately alerted campus security.

No suicide note was found at the scene, and the motive behind the incident remains unclear.

The body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.

Kilimani police boss Ben Kobia stated that the cause of the tragedy is still under investigation, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

“It is a tragic case, and a team is actively investigating the circumstances,” he said.
