Police have launched investigations following the discovery of a human skeleton dumped in a swamp at Nyakumu, within the Rurii Dam area of Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
According to police, the killing is believed to have occurred elsewhere before the remains were dumped at the swamp. The skeleton has not yet been identified. Residents in the area spotted the remains and alerted authorities, who moved the skeleton to the mortuary pending identification, postmortem and other forensic procedures.
In a separate incident in Kiamachimbi, Mathira, Nyeri County, the body of a woman was found floating in Karogoto River. Police said the body was discovered on January 19 by a local farmer.
The woman was reportedly half naked and had a deep cut on the right side of her eye, raising suspicions of foul play. The body was removed from the river and taken to the mortuary for identification and postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating the killing of a night guard at a construction site in Nairobi’s Lavington area. The deceased was identified as Laban Masongele, 56.
Police said the incident occurred on Sunday night while two guards were on duty. Reports indicate that two men knocked on the gate before forcing their way into the premises while armed with crude weapons.
The attackers allegedly assaulted Masongele, fatally injuring him, as his female colleague attempted to flee. The survivor told police that the two suspects were later joined by three other men, who tied her hands and legs before locking her in a room.
