A video circulating online has sparked debate after showing a security officer at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa reportedly confronting a female student over her dressing.
The short clip, which has been widely shared on social media on Thursday, captures a tense moment inside the university compound where the officer appears to physically restrain the student while questioning her attire.
The footage has triggered strong reactions online, with many users expressing concern over the manner in which the situation was handled.
Kenyans online argued that while institutions have the right to enforce their internal regulations, security personnel are expected to handle such matters professionally and without the use of force.
The incident has also drawn attention to the university’s dress code guidelines.
According to the institution’s student handbook, learners are expected to wear “acceptable and decent attire” while on campus. The policy discourages clothing such as short skirts above the knee, see-through outfits, low-neckline tops, tight-fitting clothes, and garments that expose innerwear or the midriff.
The rules also prohibit clothing with obscene language, sagging trousers, and other forms of dress considered indecent within the university environment. Violating the dress code may lead to disciplinary action or denial of access to certain university facilities.
