The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) will build a new housing estate in Kisumu’s Milimani estate, one of the biggest residential developments in the lake city.
The details announced in a gazette notice on September 12 reveal the complex will have 162 apartments 108 two-bedroom units and 54 three-bedroom units, all with domestic servant quarters (DSQ).
The complex has been built with a host of modern facilities, including swimming pool, indoor gym, pilates and yoga centre, jogging track, rooftop lounge space, clubhouse, children’s play area, backup generator, and electric fence.
NEMA Director General Mamo Mamo said the authority had received an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project.
He said the public now has 30 days in which to send comments before the final approval is made.
The report identifies potential issues like noise and air pollution, increased demand for water, traffic jams, and safety issues among workers.
NSSF has specified strategies to handle these issues, ranging from correct handling of waste to environmental protection.
Any member of the public who would wish to take interest in this project is invited to make written or oral comments within 30 days,” the notice stated.
The complete reports are available in NEMA offices in Nairobi, Kisumu, or ministries headquarters of the Environment Ministry.
The Kisumu project is merely days after the National Land Commission (NLC) announced that several parcels of land had been set aside for public use in different counties.
They include new allocations for Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Uasin Gishu and Kinyogori High School in Kiambu.
