Nigerian singer and songwriter Solana has been officially recognized as the Equal Ambassador for Africa, a prestigious title under Spotify’s Equal Program that highlights female voices in music across the globe.
Her recognition comes as she continues to build her musical identity around Yorupop, blending Yoruba cultural influences with contemporary Afropop, R&B and electric sounds.
Her single “Okunkun,” produced with Killertunes, is the featured track for Spotify’s October Equal Africa campaign.
Spotify launched Equal initiative to amplify female artists worldwide, ensuring their music gains visibility and recognition across diverse markets.
Solana will feature on Spotify playlists and campaigns, showcasing the continent’s rich musical diversity and the growing influence of African women. She thanked for the opportunity and the selection at the Equal programme.
“Light will always shine because that’s what it is created to do. As a woman, it’s a fact that it can be harder for people to take you seriously…Being part of the Equal programme makes me feel seen and that no matter the obstacles, I still come out shining. I’m super grateful for this opportunity,” Solana said.
Her October Equal Africa feature sets the stage for her upcoming single “O Ri Mi,” set to drop on October 16, followed by her anticipated EP, “Girl from the West, Act I,” on November 6.
Head of Music for Sub- Saharan Africa at Spotify, Phiona Okumu, said Solana has built a world that’s so entirely her own and yet her sound is one that requires no passport. She is excited to bring her to the South African stage for the first time this October.
