In a strategic move to enhance safety in residential areas, the government has partnered with the Kenya Alliance of Residents Associations (KARA) to launch the Usalama Mitaani Programme.
The initiative, unveiled in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, seeks to integrate private security firms into estate-level security operations.
The programme emphasizes public-private partnerships in crime prevention, especially in urban and peri-urban neighborhoods.
“We want a community-led security approach, where the community and government come together for the fulfilment of the same goal,” said KARA CEO Henry Ochieng.The main aim is to build safer communities and strengthen local security frameworks.
By equipping private guards with the necessary training and aligning them with national policing standards, the government aims to foster closer collaboration between residents, private security personnel, and law enforcement agencies.
The launch marks a significant policy shift, recognizing the vital role of organized community security structures in complementing formal policing efforts.
