Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has officially launched the 2026 African Road Cycling Championships in Kisumu County.

The event is set for five days continental competition from October 21 to 25, which brought over 340 cyclists from more than 30 African countries, making it one of the largest cycling competitions ever staged in East Africa.

The championships will showcase Africa’s finest cycling talents, with participants competing across multiple categories and routes designed to test endurance, speed and strategy.

The event has positioned Kisumu as a sports tourism hub by stimulating the local economic activities, hospitality, transport and tourism sectors, which will serve as catalyst for the economic growth.

It has also fostered unity and cultural exchange, as delegations from diverse African nations converge to celebrate sports.

CS Mvurya stated beyond the professional race, organizers have scheduled a family fun ride on Saturday morning, encouraging local participation and inclusivity.

The 2026 CAC Africa Road Cycling Championships is a celebration of African unity, athlete excellence and community spirit where cyclists are encouraged to exercise and participate in such competitions.
