Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has launched a scathing attack on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of playing a subordinate role within the opposition coalition and failing to deliver meaningful development to the Ukambani region during his time in government.

Speaking during a Sunday church service in Makueni County, Dr. Mutua questioned Kalonzo’s impact as former Vice President, challenging locals to assess the tangible outcomes of his leadership.

He urged residents of the region to shift their support to the current Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that it offers a more promising development agenda for the region.”Kalonzo was Vice President, but what did he do for our people? It’s time for Ukambani to stop being in the opposition and start walking with the government of the day for real development,” said Mutua.

The remarks come as President William Ruto prepares to kick off a development tour across the Ukambani counties, signaling increased efforts by the Kenya Kwanza government to consolidate support in regions traditionally seen as opposition strongholds.

Mutua’s comments are likely to intensify political tensions in the region, as leaders jostle for influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kalonzo Musyoka, a seasoned politician and key figure in the Azimio la Umoja coalition, has yet to respond to the Cabinet Secretary’s remarks.

President Ruto’s upcoming tour is expected to unveil a series of infrastructure and economic empowerment projects aimed at boosting the region’s economy and improving service delivery.

Political analysts view the tour as part of a broader strategy by the Kenya Kwanza administration to woo the Ukambani vote.
