Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, on Tuesday visited the Bangladesh High Commission in Nairobi to convey the Government of Kenya’s condolences following the death of Bangladesh’s former and first female Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia.
Speaking on behalf of the Kenyan government and people, Mudavadi expressed sympathy with the Government and citizens of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh after the passing of the veteran stateswoman, who died last week. He signed the condolence book at the High Commission, marking Kenya’s official message of solidarity during Bangladesh’s period of national mourning.
Mudavadi described the late Begum Khaleda Zia as a significant political figure whose leadership left a lasting imprint on Bangladesh’s history, particularly in advancing women’s participation in leadership and public life. He noted that her contribution to governance and public service would continue to be remembered beyond Bangladesh’s borders.
During the visit, the Prime Cabinet Secretary also held brief talks with Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Chiranjib Sarker, where he reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Mudavadi underscored the importance of continued cooperation and partnership, built on long-standing ties of friendship between Nairobi and Dhaka.
He conveyed Kenya’s solidarity with the people of Bangladesh at what he termed a difficult moment of loss, emphasizing the shared values of mutual respect and international cooperation that bind the two nations.
The Bangladesh High Commission welcomed the gesture, describing it as a reflection of the warm diplomatic relations between Kenya and Bangladesh. The visit forms part of Kenya’s broader diplomatic engagements in expressing support to partner nations during times of national bereavement.
