Schools have been directed to change the timing of some activities as the Ministry of Education prepares for the 2026 national examinations and assessments.
In a circular issued on Thursday, September 3, Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said schools should not hold Annual General Meetings (AGMs) in the third term.
Instead, AGMs will now be held in either the first or second term.
The ministry has also moved prize-giving ceremonies, thanksgiving events and special prayer days for candidates to the second term.
Schools will not be allowed to hold candidate prayer days involving parents, visitors or other people from outside the school once the examination period begins.
However, normal worship sessions within schools can continue under chaplains and teachers.
The ministry said the changes were meant to reduce activities that could interfere with candidates as they prepare for and sit their national examinations.
Education officers have also been affected by the new directive. Their annual leave has been cancelled during the national assessment and examination period.
Regional, county and sub-county education directors have been told to ensure schools follow the new instructions.
The changes come as preparations for the 2026 examinations get underway.
The Teachers Service Commission has started collecting candidate information as it prepares to deploy teachers for examination duties.
Sub-County Directors of Education are also expected to submit the names of qualified centre managers, supervisors and invigilators through the Kenya National Examinations Council’s CP2 portal by the end of September.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will run from October 19 to November 20.
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) written papers will be done from October 26 to 28, while the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will run from October 26 to 30.
The Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment will take place between October 26 and 29.
