A man was on Friday convicted by the Milimani Children’s Court for committing an indecent act with a 14-year-old child.
Senior Resident Magistrate Festus Terer found Michael Otieno guilty after reviewing the evidence and exhibits presented in court.
The offence took place on various occasions between 2021 and 2023 in the Kangemi area of Nairobi City County.
According to the court, Otieno would prey on the minor at night, touching her private parts while the rest of the family was asleep.
During her testimony, the victim revealed that she had informed her mother of the abuse, but her allegations were dismissed.
After enduring two years of torment, she finally reported the abuse to her headteacher, leading to Otieno’s arrest and her subsequent rescue to a safe center.
The court ruled that the evidence, along with the testimony of six prosecution witnesses, proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The matter, prosecuted by Nancy Kerubo, is set for sentencing on August 26, 2024.
