The Democratic Party has officially nominated Newton Kariuki, widely known as Newton Karish, as its candidate for the upcoming Mbeere North by-election.
Party leaders Lenny Kivuti and Justin Muturi praised Karish — currently serving as Muminji MCA — for his strong values and dedicated public service.
“Together with Hon. Lenny Kivuti and other leaders, I was proud to unveil Newton Kariuki as our candidate. Karish is no stranger to leadership — his record in Muminji speaks volumes,” said Muturi.
The Mbeere North seat became vacant after former MP Godfrey Ruku resigned to take up his new role as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Resource Development.
Muturi was dismissed from the Public Service Cabinet post by President William Ruto on March 26, following a fallout related to the abduction of his son.
The incident marked the climax of ongoing tensions between Muturi and the president over alleged state-sponsored abductions.
