UDA Party National Chairperson Governor Cecily Mbarire has confirmed that at least 10 aspirants have expressed interest in vying for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket, setting the stage for a competitive party nomination.
Speaking after a meeting with Deputy Party Leader Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday, April 22, Mbarire said the party had engaged all interested candidates and agreed on the need for a transparent nomination process.
She said UDA will conduct free and fair party primaries, with the date to be announced later.
“The party will sponsor a candidate for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat, and we have agreed that nominations will be conducted in a free and fair manner,” she said.
President William Ruto-led party has since set a nomination fee of Ksh250,000 for candidates seeking the party’s ticket in the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election.
In a statement on Sunday, April 26, the ruling party invited interested candidates to apply for the party ticket.
UDA noted that Women, youth, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) who are interested in the party ticket for the Ol Kalou by-election will be charged Ksh125,000.
The party also announced that it will conduct its nominations on Saturday, May 9, 2026 and mentioned that the registration for interested candidates will commence on Monday, April 27, 2026, and end on Sunday May,3, 2026.
The Ol Kalou seat in Nyandarua County has attracted growing political interest, with UDA keen to consolidate its support base in the Mt Kenya region ahead of future political contests.
The announcement signals early jostling within the ruling party, with multiple hopefuls lining up for the ticket in what is expected to be a tightly contested race.
