Maureen Kinyua: Gachagua Issues Statement After Being Linked to Blogger's Death

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has refuted claims linking him to the death of blogger Maureen Gathigia Kinyua.

The party released a statement on X claiming that Kinyua died on May 24th, 2019, after being involved in a hit-and-run accident near Sagana Catholic Church in Mathira, Nyeri County.

The statement comes at a time when fresh claims are being made that Kinyua’s death may not have been a natural one. The claims also point out that Kinyua was pregnant at the time of her death.

However, this has been denied by the party, claiming that there is no official document to prove that Kinyua was pregnant at that time.

The party claims that investigations were conducted at the time, as well as court proceedings, that showed that Kinyua died as a result of a road accident.

The statement also claims that the driver who caused her death, Jackson Ng’ang’a Njoria, was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving at a Karatina court.

The accused denied the charges, after which he was released on a cash bail of KSh150,000 as the case awaits further hearing.

The party has also claimed that news published in 2019 did not point out that Kinyua was pregnant.

In DCP’s statement on Wednesday, Gachagua warned media experts and civil society leaders to emphasise that public figures, including President William Ruto, should exercise caution and avoid making statements based on unverified claims.

“Media experts and civil society leaders emphasise that public figures, including President William Ruto, should exercise caution and avoid making statements based on unverified claims,” stressed Gachagua

Kinyua was known to actively participate in social issues on her social media platforms. The news of her death shocked many people, especially women in Nyeri County.
