Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli has finally addressed his recent conviction by the High Court for failing to attend court summons.
Speaking to the press during a security tour in Wajir, Masengeli acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings against him but chose to focus on his official duties rather than discussing the case.
Masengeli, who was accompanied by other security officers, explained that their visit to Wajir was part of an assessment to address the rising crime rates in the region.

“We do not comment on matters before the court. We are here for a security assessment with other agencies to address the recent increase in crime,” he stated.
On Monday, September 9, the High Court found Masengeli guilty of contempt for disobeying court orders.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi criticized Masengeli for his impunity and defiance, stating that such behavior could not be tolerated.
Masengeli had been summoned to explain the disappearance of three individuals in Kitengela on August 19, but he failed to appear, sending Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat in his place.
Justice Mugambi declared, “Masengeli is guilty of contempt, and the court must impose an appropriate punishment.”
The judge also summoned Lazarus Opicho, the commandant of the SGB/VIP unit, to clarify why he contacted Masengeli’s bodyguard and driver to ascertain his whereabouts.
