A political war of words has erupted after Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has described Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua as a “desperate ageing anarchy crusader” over her recent comments suggesting she could not engage with individuals who have “blood on their hands.”

The Kericho senator dismissed Karua’s remarks, accusing her of lacking the moral authority to speak on matters of political violence and accountability.

He pointed to her role in the contested 2007 general election, alleging that she was instrumental in what he termed the “theft” of Raila Odinga’s victory—claims that have long been a point of political contention in Kenya.

“Kenya has not forgotten her lead role in stealing Raila’s election in 2007 and the ensuing consequences. Afterward, with state resources alongside those in power, they mobilised gangs to reign terror on those who protested the election theft,” said Cheruiyot.

He further argued that individuals with such a legacy “cannot claim any moral high ground to lecture even death row convicts.”

Karua has yet to respond to the accusations, but the exchange comes amidst escalating tensions as the country heads into a volatile period of coalition-building and realignments.
