The Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, has ratified the removal of Cleophas Malala as the secretary general of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

In a letter dated Tuesday, October 8, Nderitu approved UDA’s internal dispute and resolution committee proceedings that resolved to remove Malala from the position.

"Pursuant to Section 20(4) of the Political Parties Act CAP 7D, this office notifies the party that a change has been made in the office of the UDA Secretary General as per Gazette notice no 10349 dated 19th August 2024. The change takes effect from the date of this letter," read Nderitu's letter in part.

Following Malala’s ouster, the President William Ruto led party appointed Hassan Omar as its secretary-general in an acting capacity.

The revocation of Malala’s appointment followed a series of infighting in the party over the position.
