Machakos County Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has urged the national government to urgently review and strengthen the country’s security systems amid a troubling surge in targeted killings.
Speaking at a public event in Machakos, Mwangangi expressed profound sorrow over the recent spate of killings, particularly those involving religious leaders. He warned that such acts of violence could plunge the country into instability if not addressed promptly.”The killing of religious leaders is not only tragic but also a direct attack on the moral fabric of our society,” said Mwangangi. “These incidents must be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible brought to justice.”
Mwangangi also raised concerns over what he termed as politically motivated harassment of opposition leaders. He condemned the increasing number of arrests targeting dissenting voices, arguing that such actions only serve to divert attention from the pressing socio-economic challenges facing Kenyans.”We cannot allow politics to be used as a tool to silence opposition voices,” he said. “Instead of intimidation, we should focus on dialogue and finding solutions to the real issues affecting our people, including unemployment, inflation, and insecurity.”
The deputy governor’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions and a national outcry over rising insecurity. His call adds to the growing demands from leaders and civil society groups urging the government to restore public trust in the country’s security and justice systems.
Mwangangi called for unity among leaders and urged the government to prioritize the safety and well-being of all Kenyans regardless of their political or religious affiliation.
