The Kenya Revenue Authority is preparing to introduce a new digital system designed to detect tax evasion by analysing large volumes of information from multiple sources, including social media platforms.

The initiative forms part of a broader plan to strengthen tax enforcement through advanced data analysis. The new KRA tax evasion system will allow investigators to identify suspicious financial activities and networks that may be avoiding taxes.

To support this effort, the authority is acquiring an Intelligence Analysis Tool for its Investigations and Enforcement Department. The software will act as a central intelligence hub where officers can collect, store, and examine data gathered from various institutions, including other government agencies.

Through the KRA tax evasion system, analysts will be able to process huge datasets, visualise patterns, and detect links that may point to fraudulent tax behaviour. The platform is expected to simplify intelligence management by replacing repetitive manual work with automated processes, improving efficiency for investigators.

The development comes at a time when the revenue agency has stepped up communication with taxpayers across the country. Recently, millions of Kenyans received SMS alerts from the authority reminding them to file their income tax returns after records showed they earned income in 2025.
