The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has handed over five newly constructed classrooms to Dardar Primary School in Dhiif Sub-County, Wajir County, in a move aimed at improving learning conditions for more than 200 pupils.
The KSh5 million project was implemented under KPA’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, Tunahusika, which supports community development initiatives across the country.
The new classrooms are expected to address infrastructure challenges that have affected learning at the school, with some pupils previously forced to study under trees due to inadequate facilities.
“As part of social corporate investments (CSI) ,Kenya Ports Authority PLC has handed over five newly constructed classrooms to Dardar Primary School in Dhiif Sub-County, Wajir County. The KSh5 million project is set to benefit more than 200 learners by providing safer, and to an extend more suitable spaces for learning,”Statement read.
The additional classrooms will provide learners with safer and more conducive spaces while improving the environment for teaching and learning.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, KPA Session Chairman and Board Member Ahmed Mukhtar said the project demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to supporting communities, particularly in Northern Kenya.
Mukhtar said the new facilities would contribute to improving access to education for children in the area and urged the school and local community to make good use of the investment.
The project is part of KPA’s continued support for education infrastructure across the country.
Earlier this year, the Authority handed over two classrooms and an office in Wajir County, further expanding its investment in education facilities.
Dardar Primary School Deputy Teacher Abdi Ahad Abdi commended KPA for supporting efforts to improve access to quality learning opportunities.
He said investments in education infrastructure give children, regardless of their location or background, a better opportunity to learn and develop.
KPA said its broader CSI strategy focuses on key areas including health, education and community development, as the Authority seeks to make a positive impact beyond its core port operations.
