Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has issued a public advisory to patients seeking admission under the Social Health Authority (SHA), outlining key steps to ensure they qualify for coverage under the new national health scheme.
In a notice released on Tuesday, the country’s largest referral hospital urged patients to carry a valid SHA-registered national ID with active membership and to ensure they have received a reference number and confirmation message from SHA before admission.
“SHA will not cover any inpatient costs if the admission was not properly referenced at the time of entry,” KNH warned.
Patients whose Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) accounts are inactive are required to activate them immediately and return to the hospital’s Health Information Desk for a new reference number. Coverage under SHA will only begin from the date issued.
The hospital emphasized that strict adherence to the new procedures is necessary to avoid disruptions in care or out-of-pocket expenses.
