More than 1,000 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will not receive their results after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) cancelled them for involvement in examination irregularities.
Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba, while releasing the 2025 KCSE results at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret, announced that the results of 1,180 candidates had been nullified.
He said the decision followed the completion of investigations that began in November last year.
Ogamba defended the move, citing the KNEC (Handling of Examination Irregularities) Rules of 2015, Legal Notice No. 132 of 2015, which empowers the Council to cancel, suspend, or withhold examination results in cases of malpractice.
“I wish to reiterate our stand on the integrity of examinations. In November last year, we indicated that there were reported cases under investigation and that action would be taken upon the conclusion of the investigations,” he said.
He added that upon completion of the KCSE examinations, 1,180 candidates were found to have engaged in irregularities, leading to the cancellation of their results in accordance with the law and existing regulations.
By comparison, 840 candidates had their results cancelled in the 2024 KCSE examinations, while 2,829 results were withheld at the time.
The increase to 1,180 cancellations in 2025 represents a 40 per cent rise, highlighting a growing concern over examination malpractice among candidates.
