Kiraitu Murungi Calls for Increased Representation of Meru in Ruto's Government

Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has expressed concern over the diminishing political influence of Meru County in President William Samoei Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service and the 100th anniversary celebrations at MCK Mikumbune Methodist Church in South Imenti Constituency, Murungi emphasized the need for greater representation of Meru leaders in key government positions.

“We love our President, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, and fully support his leadership. However, we wish to remind him that Meru County is losing its relevance in Kenya’s political landscape as far as influential dockets in his government are concerned,” Murungi stated.

He urged the President to consider appointing more leaders from Meru to pivotal roles, stressing that their inclusion would bolster the Kenya Kwanza administration’s efforts to deliver on its development agenda.

Murungi was joined at the event by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mithika Linturi, and South Imenti MP Hon. Shadrack Mwiti, among other leaders.

The former governor also reiterated his support for MP Shadrack Mwiti, praising his efforts in continuing the development initiatives Murungi began during his tenure as the area MP.

“I remain committed to supporting Hon. Shadrack Mwiti, who has picked up well from where I left. His dedication to the development of South Imenti is commendable, and I believe he will continue to serve the people of this constituency with distinction,” Murungi added.

Speaking on the same event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said that former Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was not fired over incompetence.

The DP insisted that he worked with Linturi alongside President William Ruto and can attest to his work.

“Linturi is our great son and I want to say that as Deputy President, Linturi performed beyond expectations. He just got caught up in this reorganisation because of the political dynamics of the country, not because he failed to perform,” Gachagua said.

“I worked with him and the President, and Linturi our son worked as he was expected to.”

The Deputy President urged the former CS to remain optimistic the door for a worthy opportunity will soon be opened for him.
