Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has officially opened the Africa Commerce and Industry Summit 2026 at Uhuru Gardens, under the theme “Driving Africa’s Next Era of Trade.”

The occasion is to provide responsibilities in connecting businesses, unlocking markets and helping translate trade agreements into real commercial opportunities.

Speaking at the opening, Kinyanjui called for the expansion of markets within Africa and beyond, which will encourage export of raw materials to build industries that manufacture competitive products and generate wealth for the economy.

He added Africa is known for its economic liberation in thriving businesses and jobs.

“Trade is one of Africa’s greatest pathways to economic liberation. Our responsibility is to ensure that its benefits are felt through thriving businesses, decent jobs and greater prosperity of our people,” Kinyanjui said.

He stated that Africa’s economic transformation can be achieved through trade, investment and action rather that endless discussions and by prioritizing trade-enabling infrastructure, which includes LAPSSET and Northern Corridors.

This will improve connectivity, reduce the cost of doing business and facilitate movement of goods.

He emphasized on the importance of digital transformation and e-commerce that will enable African businesses, particularly MSMEs, to access to regional and global markets.

At the summit, Principal Secretaries Abubakar Hassan (Investment Promotion) and Regina Ombam (Trade), along with Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dr Erick Rutto.
