The government is rolling out a raft of transformative projects in Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties, aimed at improving infrastructure, expanding access to electricity, and uplifting local economies.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Thursday said the government is finalizing the procurement process for the upgrading of six major roads to bitumen standards across the three counties.

The new road network is expected to ease the movement of goods and people while promoting trade and economic growth in the Ukambani region.

“Good roads open up regions to opportunities. Once complete, these projects will not only cut transport costs but also enhance market access and spur economic growth,” Kindiki said.

In addition, the government has invested KSh 5.3 billion in last-mile electricity connectivity projects currently underway in Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of households, schools, and businesses, significantly improving livelihoods.

Other ongoing projects in the region include the construction of 40 fresh produce markets, affordable housing projects worth billions of shillings, and community water initiatives under the Equalization Fund.

The Deputy President met Members of Parliament from constituencies across the three counties to assess the progress of these projects and discuss priority areas for future investments.

“The government is committed to ensuring equitable development across all parts of the country. Ukambani is a key region, and these projects will play a critical role in unlocking its full potential,” he noted.
