The Kiambu Business Community has accused the county government’s enforcement team of harassment, intimidation, and theft during crackdowns on businesses lacking single business permits.

Traders argue that permit fees are excessively high and inconsistently applied, and claim that when payments are not made, officers confiscate their goods without taking inventory.

According to reports, when businesses fail to pay, enforcement officers confiscate their goods, often without taking proper inventory.Despite a court order directing the return of seized items, enforcement officers allegedly refused to comply, citing missing records and the absence of responsible personnel.

Some traders further claim they were asked to pay bribes in order to recover their property.“The conduct of the enforcement team is causing immense stress to business owners,” said one trader, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “We wantoy government to standardise permit fees and ensure officers respect the law and court orders.”
