The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of the officer from the Kenyan police force, who was under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.
Apparently, the officer lost his life as a result of a road accident that occurred on Sunday around 2 a.m. Kenyan time along the Kenscoff-Petion Ville road in the Pelerine 9 area.
The next of kin has been notified. Accident reports indicate that MSS officers were involved in the crash that led to a death during a recovery operation with two MaxxPro vehicles.
The incident took place when towing operations were being carried out. Apart from the Kenyan officer who died, two civilians were also killed. There are also 8 other MSS officers who got injured in the accident, three of whom were seriously wounded. At present, they are receiving special medical care at a hospital.
The MSS Mission, through the Haitian National Police, is initiating the process of bringing the officer’s body home to Kenya. The authorities are also giving their word that the injured personnel will get the best medical care possible until they recover.
In its statement, NPS recognised the loss experienced but stood firm in its pledge to the MSS mandate, which entails the establishment of safety and peace in the Haitian community.
